PROJECT UPDATES
2019-10-29 - RESIDE AWARDED CONTRACT FOR NEW WINCHESTER HOSPICE
Reside Construction is delighted to have been appointed to create a new hospice for the community in the heart of Winchester, Hampshire.
Work is scheduled to begin in early December to transform historic Burrell House, on the site of Royal Hampshire County Hospital, into Winchester Hospice. Reside will be working with Ridge Property & Construction Consultants to create a modern facility for patients and their loved ones to receive the best possible care.
The hospice will have 10 inpatient rooms as well as outpatient facilities, acting as a hub for specialist palliative care both on site and in the community, allowing the expert team to be there to care for patients with long-term illnesses, and for those at the end of their lives.
The hospice will be run by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), which provides hospital services to a population of approximately 570,000 people in Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.
The aim for the hospice to open its doors to patients in early 2021. This has been made possible by extensive fundraising by the local community, which continues to raise an additional £1million needed for the build.
Dr Lara Alloway, a consultant in palliative medicine and chief medical officer at HHFT, said: “We are incredibly excited that the building works are due to start shortly, and are so thankful to everyone who has given their time or generously donated to help make this a reality.
“We aren’t at our fundraising total yet, so I would encourage everybody to get behind Winchester Hospice and be part of our story. Access to local hospice services and having a place for families to be together at such a critical time is invaluable, and we know this will make a huge difference to the local community in Winchester when the hospice opens.”
Speaking about the appointment, Andy Sparks, Reside's Healthcare Projects Director, said, "Reside is a local company with its heart in Hampshire and with a specialist team skilled in providing exceptional healthcare facilities. We're looking forward to working with the HHFT team and Ridge Property Consultants to build this much-needed hospice for the Winchester community."
